Tehuacana Creek Winery Entrance
Tehuacana Creek Vineyards and Winery (also known as TCV) is a great example of a rural Texas country winery. Located a few miles east of Waco, the Swedish owners, Ulf and Inga-Lill Westblom will welcome you with open arms and make you feel like you are part of the family. They're happy to show off their spotless operation and will give you a lesson in Texas grape growing if you want to learn. They'll also teach you about the history of the area.

Tehuacana Creek Wine BarUlf has been actively involved in combating Pierce's disease in Texas. The couple will even show you glassy-winged sharpshooter (the carrier of the dreaded bacteria that attacks grapevines that causes the disease) they have encased in plastic. The disease makes it extremely difficult to grow typical vinifera grapes as in Europe, so the Westbloms have opted to focus on native North American and hybrid grapes with greater immunity.

They offer some very good Port-style dessert wines made in the same manner as in Portugal's Duoro Valley. Around Christmas they serve ginger cookies with their Swedish specialty, Glögg, a red wine served steaming hot in a mug with cinnamon, cloves, ginger, raisins and a splash of Brandy.
